Jeera Rice can be made in a matter of minutes if you have cooked rice at hand. The goodness of cumin seeds and curry leaves in the rice when combined with dal tadka is one of the best. Using Basmati rice to prepare Jeera Rice adds to the additional flavour of the dish. Irrespective of the rice you use, make sure it is soft and fluffy and not mushy. By far this is the shortest recipe I have written. You can serve it with potato fry or baby potato fry along with dal.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups Rice, cooked
- 2 tablespoons Ghee
- 2 teaspoons Cumin seeds
- 2 sprigs Curry leaves
Preparation:
Take two cups of hot cooked rice in a large bowl and set aside. Heat ghee in a pan over a medium setting. Add cumin seeds and fry till they brown. Do not burn. Add curry leaves and switch off the heat. Add it to the rice and mix through slowly.
Serve hot with dal.
Notes:
- I don’t use any spices while cooking rice for making jeera rice. You can add, cinnamon, bay leaves and cloves while cooking rice if you prefer. Make sure to take it out before mixing with fried cumin though.
- I have used regular boiled Karnataka Ponni rice. You can prepare using Basmati rice as well. The cooked rice should be soft and not mushy.
