Green Gram Dosa is a healthy breakfast option. If you are bored with the humble plain old dosa, this is an excellent substitute that is quite easy to make. The texture of this dosa is similar to that of an omelette, or so I have noticed. Green gram can be used in making both savoury and sweet dishes.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup Green Gram
- 4 cloves Garlic, peeled
- 1 inch Ginger, peeled
- 2 Green chillies
- 1/2 tsp Salt or as needed
- 2 cups Water + more for grinding
- 1 large Onion, finely chopped
- Oil
Recipe:
Wash and soak green gram in 2 cups of water for 8 hours or overnight.
Drain the excess water and take the soaked green gram in a mixer along with ginger, garlic, green chillies and salt. Grind them to a smooth consistency by adding water (*Refer Notes).
Heat a griddle or tawa over a medium flame and brush about 1/4 tsp oil. Take a ladle full of batter, pour it on the tawa and spread it from the centre to the edges in a circular motion. Top it with onions. Drizzle oil around the edge. Once it crisps up turns brown, reduce the flame to low, flip it and cook the other side till little golden brown spots appear. Repeat the process for the rest of the batter.
Serve hot with coconut chutney or sambhar.
Notes:
- For the first time, grind it coarsely without adding any water. Open the mixer jar and add a little water and grind it to a smooth batter. Be cautious while adding water. Make sure there are no chunks and is not runny.
- The batter should be smooth enough to spread on the griddle.
Followed the instructions and the dosa turned very yummy.. my daughter n hubby seeing me preparing the batter they were hesitant to have initially. After having one dosa they were asking for more. Had spicy aviyal as combination and it was just perfect.
Thank you. Glad you liked it. I have not tried it with aviyal. Interesting though. Will try sometime.
