Raw Banana Stir Fry is a favourite dish of mine. It goes well with any dal or variety rice. The fennel seeds elevates the flavour of the dish. It is a simple delicious dish and is easy to prepare.
Ingredients:
- 2 Raw Bananas
- 1/2 tsp Fennel seeds
- 4 Red Chillies
- 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp Urad dal
- 2 sprigs Curry leaves
- 4 tbsp Oil
Recipe:
Take fennel seeds, red chillies, turmeric powder and salt in a blender and grind it to a coarse powder.
Peel the skin off the raw bananas using a knife or a peeler. Then slice them into thin medallions. Do not soak them in water to avoid discolouration(*Refer Notes).
Heat oil in a nonstick pan or a kadai on a medium flame and add the mustard seeds. Once it crackles, add the urad dal. Let it brown and add the curry leaves.
Next, add the raw banana slices and stir slowly so that the oil coats well on them.
Cover and cook for about 2 minutes. Stir in between so that it does not stick to the bottom of the pan. As it cooks, the raw banana slices starts to turn translucent at first and then to brown.
Next, add the in the blended spice mixture.
The spices are fried along with the raw banana slices. Once they are all roasted and turns golden brown in colour, switch off the flame.
Serve spicy Raw Banana Stir Fry hot with rice and dal.
Notes:
- Make the spice mixture and keep all other ingredients ready before starting with the bananas.
- Apply oil in your palms and fingers while peeling off the skin as the banana might be sticky. Not mandatory though. You can always clean it later with water and hand wash.
- Chop them thin. Not so thin that it might break while frying.
- While peeling the skin, the banana will start to discolour. Not an issue. Usually we soak in water to avoid discolouration. Do not do so for this recipe. It might get mushy and won’t have a nice crispness.
- Keep the flame in a low to medium state to avoid sticking on the pan/kadai or burning.
